Kristin Russo is the host of PBS Studios’s First Person. In episode seventeen, she talks with Reverend Broderick Greer all about sexuality, gender identity, faith, and religion. Broderick Greer is a gay man who is the Curate at Grace St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Memphis Tennessee. In the episode, they talk about his coming to an understanding of his sexuality and identity while also being involved in a church from a very young age. I believe the intended audience of this episode is anyone! Although, the main audience would probably be those involved in the LGBTQ community, or those heavily involved in church. This episode is very informative for those who don’t know a lot about the LGBTQ or church communities and the personal battles people within these communities face. I truly feel for the people involved in both communities as they tend to get a lot of hatred and bullying for being themselves. As well as the feeling that they aren’t good enough for God since they are a part of the LGBTQ community. Overall, I think the most important message from this episode is that you can be involved in multiple communities even if people tell you that you can’t. Also that it is important to stand up for what you believe in and who you identify as.
