Mentor Text Talk
Tuesday 4/5/2022
Makayla Noble is a 17 year old junior at Prosper High School (which is about an hour northeast of TCU). She is also a former athlete at my cheer gym who is very well known in the cheer world.
I believe she qualified as a mentor for this talk because even though she is younger, she has experienced something that not everyone can say they have. And she is seriously just the sweetest person ever and super determined and positive. It's so inspiring.
On September 20th of last year, she was injured in a backyard tumbling accident which resulted in a severe spinal cord injury leaving her paralyzed. I wanted to share her story because it is so interesting to learn about the challenges that paralyzed people face and since Makayla is such a positive person, her journey has been incredible to follow. I believe she relates to our composition because her story is a great example of where she is from, where she is now, and where she is going.
Looking to the future and where she is going, she has gone to a rehab center and is currently going to therapy to get stronger and work towards her goals. She has made so much progress in the past 6 months so it is exciting to see how she will continue to reach her goals.
As I said before, Makayla has a pretty big following on social media from cheer as she was a well-known flyer on a very well-known team, but since her accident, she has gained an even bigger presence and documents her new lifestyle. Her mom and older sister also run a website, a Facebook page, and an Instagram account that gives daily updates and shows her progress.
