Jazmine Hughes wrote an article titled “Elaine Welteroth, Teen Vogue’s Refashionista.” This educational article was in the format of a story that talked about the author meeting Elaine Welteroth. Elaine Welteroth is an American journalist, editor, author, and television host. In April of 2016, she became the editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue. This made her the youngest-ever editor-in-chief of a Conde Nast publication and the second person of African-American heritage to hold the title there. Throughout the article, we are shown the overall growth and evolution of the magazine Teen Vogue. The article went into depth about the evolution of Teen Vogue and how they brought in more diversity and new topics of discussion to the magazine. There was a lack of representation and diversity in many magazines and it was hard for many viewers to relate. Teen Vogue was determined to find a solution to this problem. I believe the intended audience of the article would be everyone but mainly women of color. Everyone needs to be aware of the lack of representation and diversity shown throughout advertising and media daily. At the same time, women of color can realize through this article, that magazines like Teen Vogue are pushing for change. Another audience that I think could benefit from this article is other editors-in-chief of magazines. All magazines should have diversity and inclusion and everyone should be able to relate. Therefore, I think the most important message of the article would be that positive change is possible, also the fact that it is super important for everyone to feel included. Especially in teen magazines as these young girls and growing up and trying to find where they fit in and who they want to be.
